We had a great sleep last night in Maskill's and were excited to be heading over to Little Harbour home of the Cape Breton Smoke House restaurant. We decided to call ahead and make reservations at the smoke house for tonight. I mentioned that we were joined in Baddeck by a 125' motor yacht. They were the ones to watch in Baddeck with their big tender and water toys definitely the rock stars of the anchorage until........a 150' motor yacht anchored beside them dwarfing their beautiful yacht:). There is always someone with a bigger boat. We weighed anchor at 1200hrs just as the 125' yacht was entering Maskill's, they may not have liked the competition in Baddeck:). Joyce hailed them on the VHF and invited them to take our spot which had lots of swing room and great holding, so as we were motoring out they were settling in to our spot, I hope they enjoy this anchorage as much as we did. It,s about 14 miles from Maskill,s to Little Harbour so without a pressing timeline we let the wind carry us once we cleared the lift bridge at Little Narrow's. The breeze held at about 14knots and we had a nice sail and didn't start the engine until we started our turn for Little Harbour at 1500hrs. Little Harbour is one of the most protected anchorage on the lake with a narrow entrance about 100' wide opening int a large circular cove which is protected for all angles. You have to really mind the chart on the entrance since the channel is quite narrow and I cut the corner a bit too sharp, we never touched but the depth was showing 4.5' never good when you draw 6'. At least I know now how far my sounder is from the bottom of the keel. There were only two other boats in this great cove and we found a nice spot on the sw side. After relaxing for a bit we took Gypsy out and explored the entire cove. Someone was in the midst of developing one end of the cove and had several lots for sail. The German owners of the smoke house told us that it was primarily German visitors that were buying the lots. The nice German couple who owned the smoke house had found the property when they sailed in one day on their large steel sailboat which was docked out front. They spent several years sailing south and returning to Little Harbour to work on the Smoke House which is a pretty amazing log building. The Smokehouse and Little Harbour didn't disappoint, it was kind of funny when we entered the restaurant there were two couples already seated at one of two tables. The table next to the window was empty with a reserved sign on it and the other folks joked with us that there was no way they could get that table since the owners had told them it was reserved for some special people (I think the other patrons expected celebrity's:). The owner's of the Smokehouse have a special soft spot for fellow sailors and they were very friendly and helpful allowing us to get rid of our trash and stocking us up with ice. Very nice people and we can't wait to get back and see them again.
