We were now proud owners of a 47’ sailboat loaded with lots of gear and equipment that we were very unfamiliar with, so what now? It was a little overwhelming for me, early on a typical conversation sometimes went like this between Joyce and I.
(Joyce: What’s that thing for Scott? Scott: Geeez Joyce I have no idea this is all new to me… Joyce: Well I was just asking. Scott: I know, I know I’m sorry it’s just a bit overwhelming not really knowing anything) Joyce soon broke me of these snarky responses:)
I decided to start by cleaning the boat in and out it was pretty dirty from the trip and had some standing water in the bilge which was nasty. Surprisingly even by cleaning and going through the bilge and all of the lockers increased my confidence and understanding of the boat.
I then started going through the survey which had identified lots of items to check and correct. From the survey I made a list and prioritized the items that needed to be done while out of the water.
Repair rub rail
Remove names and damaged striping before it gets cold
Hoses
hose clamps
Batteries
Leaks find and solve
Through hulls
sump pump
main engine siphon break
etc...
