We have a Fridge and freezer on Rose Lee which are a pretty good size, however we had a hard time keeping things frozen and the fridge seemed to run excessively. I had gotten in the habit of shutting off the breaker for the fridge at night so we could sleep. I had spoken to a few owners regarding this issue and there was some great documentation and pictures on the 470 owner’s site, so armed with this information I decided to tackle the problem. I bought some 1” closed cell Styrofoam SM insulated board with an r5 insulating value. I also purchased a roll of heater blanket (the silver stuff) and a roll of heater tape. The next step just required some patience and lots of measuring. I cut two sections of the board to fit the bottom of the fridge and wrapped the two boards in heater blanket and friction fit them into the bottom. I kind of followed the same drill for the sides and back with board covered in heater blanket. I didn’t insulate the wall between the fridge and freezer since the fridge is cooled by ambient cooling from the freezer. So far so good, I will repeat this process in the freezer and with the remaining blanket I will cover the exhaust in behind the fridge/ freezer which is accessed from the aft cabin. I think I may need a new thermostat as well but we will see how this works first.
